Shopify has a built in free connector for Meta Ads as part of the Facebook Sales Channel. This was built in 2021 and is maintained by Shopify.
Elevar ensures that 100% of your conversions are tracked and delivered to your marketing channels using Google Tag Manager and server-side tracking. Since the company was acquired by Buxton (now Audiense) the product has been merged into a wider analytics and segmentation tool.

Facebook & Instagram App is Shopify's free, native Meta connector — simple and codeless, but limited to Meta only. It's a basic 2021-era integration with no identity resolution or server-side tracking, meaning browser-side limitations will cause data gaps.
Elevar offers server-side tracking and identity resolution, giving stronger data accuracy across channels. However, following its acquisition by Buxton/Audiense, it's shifted toward a broader analytics platform, which may not suit a focused ecommerce tracking need. Critically, it relies on server-side Google Tag Manager, which still depends on browser tags and can't fully capture the customer journey.
Littledata wins on both by combining server-side tracking direct from Shopify's servers (no GTM dependency), identity resolution, automatic checkout step tracking, native Shopify Markets support, and a no-code setup — all with a 30-day free trial. This ensures complete conversion tracking without the browser-side blind spots that limit both alternatives.

The Facebook & Instagram app sends data only to Meta's ecosystem — limited to one platform.
Elevar and Littledata both offer multi-destination server-side tracking across major ad platforms, analytics, and CRM/SMS tools.
Key differences:
Both cover nearly identical destinations, but Littledata's Segment connector makes it the stronger choice if you're building a composable data stack, while Elevar edges ahead for teams heavily reliant on GTM workflows.
